PEST CONTROL & PREVENTION

COCKROACHES

Cockroaches are vectors of diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid and poliomyelitis. Their diet is omnivorous and includes fermenting substances, soiled dressings, hair, leather, wallpaper, their own and other faeces as well as food for human consumption. The latter may be contaminated either by the mechanical transfer of causative agents of disease from the insects body, or by transmissions in the faeces. Cockroaches can also cause allergic reactions especially amongst sensitive individuals e.g. asthmatics.

Cockroaches breed at an alarming rate the Ootheca (egg case) of a German Cockroach (blattella germanica) will hold between 30-48 young. These young (nymphs) will reach sexual maturity after approximately ten weeks.

For many years insectacidal sprays and contact dusts have been the only way to control cockroach infestations. Such treatments rely on the insects coming into direct contact with the insecticide. Unfortunately small colonies of pests are often missed due to them being deep seated in building fabrics, equipment etc. Experience has taught us that, due to increasing overuse of sprays and insufficient pesticide rotation, genetic resistance has occurred in many areas.

Albany technicians are trained in a new concept of cockroach treatment. We use a variety of gel baits, which provide an actual food source for the pests. This makes the treatments extremely effective. Although gel baits have been available to the industry for several years in their different forms, few companies have invested the necessary time and field research to fulfil their potential.

Albany is now in a position to carry out complete eradication programs, something that few other companies can offer.
